Whether it is floor tile or backsplash tile, keeping tile and grout clean is not an easy task. Since tile and grout are in moist environments maintenance and cleaning are needed more frequently to extend the life. When it comes to cleaning your tile and grout, there are many options.  Here are few options for cleaning your tile and grout.

Chlorine Bleach
Household chlorine bleach is a common and effective way to clean tile and grout lines. For best results, you will want to dip a grout brush into a small amount of chlorine bleach.  You will then scrub the tile and grout lines with a grout brush. After you have scrubbed all the tile and grout lines, rinse away the chlorine bleach with water.  When using chlorine bleach be sure to wear gloves, safety goggles, and old clothes as bleach is toxics and tends to splatter.  You should also be sure the area you are using chlorine bleach in is well ventilated. Chlorine bleach should only be used as a last resort to remove stains because of the drawbacks.

Oxygen Bleach
Oxygen bleach is safer to use than chlorine bleach. This type of bleach is non-toxic and safe for the environment.  When using oxygen bleach to clean tile and grout lines, you will need to combine with water as this bleach comes in powder form. Once you have a paste, you will want to apply to the tile and grout lines. Let the paste sit for 5-10 minutes before you scrub. After you scrub the tile and grout lines, rinse away with water.

Alkaline Cleaners
Alkaline cleaners are the most popular type of tile and grout cleaners. You can find these cleaners at your local store. When using Alkaline cleaners, you will apply the cleaner to the tile and grout lines.  Let the cleaner sit for a few minutes before you rinse away the cleaner and remove it with a towel. Alkaline cleaners are best at getting rid of grease and dirt in kitchen grout lines.

Baking Soda and Vinegar
Combining baking soda and vinegar is a cheap and effective way to clean your tile and grout lines. When using this method, you will want to combine 3 parts of baking soda and 1 part vinegar. Combining baking soda and vinegar will create a paste.  Once you have a paste, you will want to apply it to the tile and grout lines with your finger. While neither baking soda or vinegar are dangerous, you should wear rubber gloves. Let the paste sit for a couple of minutes before removing with water.
